I love music festivals not only because live music is one of the most moving experiences you can have, but because I’m forced to discover new artists. This was probably the best festival or live music event I’ve ever been to. Since I never have time to go to, I was considering FYF to be my Coachella. However, I was told by people in San Diego, in LA and from around the world that FYF is far better than the hyped ladder.
On Day 1 I caught sets by Jagwar Ma, Vince Staples, Grimes, Hot Chip, Tame Impala, Kedrick Lamar, and closed it with a DJ set by Moby. The standout to me by far was Tame Impala. They. Were. Incredible. I loved their music before and I’m absolutely obsessed with it after. I was also pleasantly surprised to discover Vince Staples, an emerging rapper with some sick tracks that I can’t wait to hear more from. Kendrick Lamar was insane. I love how he merges that old school 90’s sound with rap of the present. Finally, how can you not love a good DJ set by the icon himself, Moby! It was an EDM mashup that ensured I wouldn’t sleep till 5am, mixed with some of his classic 90’s sounds. Day 2 was a bit more dismal and we figured out why: it was the same day as the VMA’s. However we saw a great lineup by Father John Misty, Blood Orange, Mac Demarco, and caught the end of LCD Soundsystem.
I wanted to embody that bohemian cool spirit, per usual with my style whenever in LA. Day 1 I chose a Yeezy thermal oversized tank, Calvin Klein Jeans jean shorts, Calvin Klein Collection sandals, a vintage Stetson hat, Vintage Christian Dior sunglasses, and an ever-essential John Varvatos suede backpack. Day 2 I wore a Standard Issue overall romper, Alexander McQueen fringe scarf, Tom Ford sunglasses, and Grenson chukka boots.
