Sometimes I truly feel like I was born in the wrong decade. I don’t know what it is about the 70’s but I’m fucking obsessed with it. The times were simpler, the people and style were so naturally bohemian and cool. Contrived wasn’t even a word; nothing could define it. From the iconic fashion of Halston and Yves Saint Laurent, the music of Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd to the perpetually cool style of Mick and Bianca Jagger at Studio 54 — I can’t get enough of it. I think I’d almost give anything just to go back and live a week in the decadence. I want to be in the studio when Syd Barrett walked back in after his mysterious disappearance. I want to be in the workroom when Halston so effortlessly picked up a piece of silk charmeuse and draped a dress for Liza Minelli in one swoop. It’s hard to find someone as obsessed about the 70’s as me, people usually just think I’m weird. If you know me though you know how it drives my inspiration in so many ways. I’m sitting here listening to Zeppelin’s “Your Time Is Gonna Come” and my heart gets heavy. I’m a naturally nostalgic person no doubt, but it really hits me when I hear classic rock. I just feel such a connection and longing to experience the vibe of this revolutionary period. Everyone was driven for change and did so with an existential effortlessness. It seemed like an undoubtedly fun time where people created for and looked towards a bright future ahead, and aspired to the great times to come.
